Jéri L. Ogden, EdD is a third-generation educator.
With a passion and emphasis on equity and cultural competence, Jéri is a talented educator with an exceptional ability to establish cooperative, professional relationships with parents, staff, and administration. She is a high-achieving educator adept at supporting and enhancing teacher success with effective training and mentoring. Specifically, she has created and delivered a variety of professional development workshops focused on family engagement, technology in the classroom, identity, and culturally relevant practices. She began P.U.R.P.L.E. as an opportunity to provide active and engaging learning opportunities where community members and youth shift how they see themselves and the community they serve.
Jéri graduated from Howard University with a B.A. in Communication and Culture. Upon graduation, she spent one year working at DC’s first all-boys public charter school as a substitute teacher and assistant director of the after-school program before her training as a Summer 2010 DC Teaching Fellow. Jéri has taught at both public and charter schools in DC and Houston, as well as an international school in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. During her time in the classroom, she served as a Smithsonian Science in Pre-K Educator and a Flamboyan Family Engagement Fellow, completing over 100 home visits and engaging with families from all 8 Wards in DC.
Jéri also holds an M.Ed from American University in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Educational Leadership and Policy and gained her experience teaching Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 3rd-5th grade English Language Arts & Social Studies. She recently completed her Ed.D in Educational Leadership and Organizational Innovation at Marymount University. Her dissertation, Rest If You Must, But Don’t You Quit, examined PK-12 Black women principals’ leadership experiences and burnout.
