My pursuit to a career in education began with an internship where I worked with youth in the juvenile court system. I realized very quickly that these young people missed an opportunity at receiving a quality education and that had the potential to shape their future in a very negative manner. Though I come from a family full of educators and eventually would carry on the legacy of my grandparents, it was not until I spent those moments in the courthouse watching 11, 12, and 13 year old children face the justice system, that I truly understood the opportunities education can give.
Being an educator is an act of social justice and activism.
